The University Museum of St. Petersburg University of Management Technologies and Economics has been existing since 1995. Evidence of the glorious history of the university is carefully kept here. This history began on December 27, 1990, when, by the decision of the Executive Committee of the Lensoviet and the USSR Academy of Sciences, the Professional Training Center was created for retraining the heads of governmental bodies and businesses.

We started having only one computer, two desks and three full-time employees. Since then our school has developed. In 1995, the Institute of Management and Economics was created, which in 2005 received the status of academy, and then in 2011 - the highest status of an educational institution - university. The university owes much of its educational and scientific success to the work of its founder, first president and rector, PhD for Economy, professor, Meritorious scientist of the Russian Federation, Рonoгrary worker of higher professional education Viktor Andreevich Gnevko.

On February 29, 2012, a virtual branch of the Russian Museum was opened on the basis of the University Museum. A virtual branch is an IT and multimedia room with media library that includes interactive programmes, films, print publicztions on the Russian Museum collections, on the history of Russian art, the life and work of various artists, the history of palaces and parks that are included now in the museum site. The unique virtual software technologies are used to combine the past and the future. One can walk through the lost interiors of the palaces which are recreated now using computer graphics.

One also can 'transit' from one picture to another using a specially designed three-dimensional space and feel an eyewitness of captured events. 'So, the bravest can, in floatity, feel the horror of the last day of Pompeii, or visit the bedroom of Paul I in the Mikhailovsky Castle on the night of his murder,' says during the open ceremony Vladimir Gusev, the director of the State Russian Museum, a full member of the Russian Academy of Arts, honoured artist of Russian Federation, Honorary Professor of St. Petersburg University of Management Technologies and Economics.
