A full-length bronze statue dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the great composer.

The monument to the famous Russian composer, Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka, is located in front of the N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, at the intersection of Theatralnaya Square and Glinka Street. It was at this building (the former building of the Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre), where the Glinka’s great premieres – “A Life for the Tsar”, “Ruslan and Lyudmila” – took place.

The brooding figure of Glinka is installed on a granite pedestal decorated with a laurel branch. The years of the composer’s life and the names of his famous musical compositions are carved in golden letters on the pedestal.

Remarkably, the monument was originally installed in the centre of Theatralnaya Square, where the tram lines currently run. Since the monument interfered with the traffic, the bronze figure of the composer had to be moved to the south side of the square. The lounging students of the Conservatory can be often seen in the park near the monument.
