A chamber museum (Karl Bulla Historical Photography Foundation), located in the heart of Saint-Petersburg

The Photography Museum is located opposite Gostiny Dvor and Catherine’s Garden. Karl Bulla photography salon is one of the oldest photo studios in Russia. In the building on Nevsky, 54 you can find Karl Bulla Historical Photography Foundation, a private museum and a photo studio.

Since 1850-s this photo-studio has still been working. And all the people in the city wanted to have their photos taken in Karl Bulla photo-studio. Even during hard times of revolutions, wars and the siege people continued coming here to take their photos. Those photos with the stamp “Nevsky, 54” are very carefully preserved in thousands of families all around the world.

By the end of 1990-s the premises, where “Photography №1” was housed, were in a very bad condition. Capital reconstruction was required. The reconstruction helped to preserve this memorial photo studio for future generations. In 2003 during the 300th anniversary celebration of Saint Petersburg renovated Karl Bulla photo-salon opened its doors to the visitors and now we can come to this place, take a photo, see the exhibition and from the terrace enjoy the view of the Nevsky Prospect.
