The tiniest apartment museum in the city of St. Petersburg is based on the local legendary Writers' house at 9, Griboyedov Canal where the most popular satiric writer Mikhail Zoshchenko spent his last years in 1954-1958.
Mikhail Zoschenko first settled down in a four-room apartment at the Writer’s house in 1934. During the following years of disgrace, in a result of exchange, his family finally took up two rooms in the apartment 119. The museum takes up two halls now - the writer's cabinet and the permanent exposition of rarities consisting 115 exhibits of Zoshchenko's writing office which are fully authentic. The State 20th Century Literature Museum offers not only lectures and tours, but also collects and publishes the memoirs for more than 130 celebrity persons including V. Kaverin, I, Sokolov-Mikitov, V. Shishkov, N. Zabolotsky, N. Oleynikov, V. Rozhdestvensky – writers, actors, artists, literature critics of the House community. The museum welcomes children, adult group guided tours, including foxtrail city adventures to the Whiters’ house across the heart of St. Petersburg.
