One of the first private museums in Russia, it was created in 1998 under the scientific and methodological supervision of the Russian Museum of Ethnography
Saint-Petersburg Dolls Museum was founded in 1998 and occupies 2-stage building on the Vasilievskiy island. This is cultural and tourist center, uniting several directions under one roof: production of souvenir porcelain dolls, museum, souvenir shop, doll theatre.
Museum funds include about 40000 items, exposition contains more than 5000 dolls from various countries and epochs: contemporary and antiquary dolls, authorial interior, theatrical, ceremonial souvenir dolls made by Russian and foreign masters. Besides, there are elements of national stage suits, decorations, old furnish, household traditional items, textile collages and other ethnographic and art production. Diversity of the museum's collection embraces practically all types of the doll handicraft.
