Theatre with authorial performances based on life stories

In 1966, Yuri Alexandrovich Smirnov-Nesvitsky, a critic and an employee of the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography, gathered his lecture group. Three years later, the group began showing theatrical sketches in the format of home performances to a circle of close friends.  1969 is considered the date of foundation of the theatre club, which was given the name "Saturday".

The first performances in the "Saturday" were authorial ones, the actors staged them according to the plots of their own lives. An important theme of such productions was and remains love in all its manifestations.

In 1994, the "Saturday" theatre received the status of a city budget institution of St. Petersburg. For many years, the team of  the "Saturday" had not had its own premises and only in 2002 the theatre received a permanent platform with a total area of 500 sq.m. in Zvenigorodskaya Street, where it is located to this day.
