The gift from sister city Shanghai for the 300th anniversary of Saint Petersburg, a miniature copy of one of the parts of Yuyuan Garden

The picturesque and unusual architectural and landscape complex was designed by Chinese masters with the usage of original Chinese materials. In the centre of the garden there is a small palace “Pagoda of friendship” designed for meditation and tea ceremony. The entrance on both sides of this palace is guarded by Chinese lions that are considered to frighten off evil spirits. For the same purpose, the “Nine-Dragon Wall” depicts creatures that symbolise power. The dragons, which in China are considered to be powerful talismans, are made of ceramics specially imported to Saint Petersburg. Each of the creatures depicted on the wall has its own purpose. They protect from diseases, betrayal and sudden danger, give power, help to avoid problems with law and to attract positive energy. One of the dragons became popular among students. This dragon is considered to help in studies. There are also creatures that protect temples and symbolise water. The territory is decorated with a small waterfall, a pond with fountains and, of course, with decorative rocks that create the illusion of mountain ridges. Small pine trees, willows, apple trees and even a cherry tree were planted here. Public cultural events are held in the garden from time to time.
