The monument to the great manipulator Ostap Bender is installed 25th July 2000 in Saint Petersburg on Ostap’s birthday on Italiyanskaya ulitsa, 4 by the entrance to the restaurant “Gold Ostap”. Nowadays there is no restaurant with such name, but Ostap with his chair is standing here.

The opening of this monument was dated for the 100 anniversary of Ostap Bender who, as experts assure, was born on July 25, 1900. Сoncerning an installation site of a sculpture there were ambiguous opinions. Ones consider such objects as a kitsch which shouldn’t be placed in a historical part of the city. For the majority Ostap Bender is the popular literary hero who decorates many cities, that is why they don't mind the appearance of this hero in the urban environment.
