Saint Petersburg Philharmonia is among the oldest philharmonic halls in Russia. It is more than 200 years old.

The Grand Hall of Philharmonia is located in the house of the Noble Assembly of Saint Petersburg which was built in 1839 by architects P. Jacot and C. Rossi.

Since the end of the 1840s, the hall with excellent acoustics has attracted the most famous musicians and has become a centre of the musical life of Saint Petersburg. F. Liszt, H. Berlioz, R. Wagner, G. Mahler, A. Rubinstein, K. Schumann, P. Viardot, P. Sarasate and many others performed here. Many compositions by the classics of Russian music: A. Borodin, М. Mussorgsky, P. Tchaikovsky, N. Rimsky-Korsakov and A. Glazunov were introduced here for the first time.

Since 1921, the main performing group in the Grand Hall has been the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to concerts, the Grand Hall is engaged in musical, lecturing and publishing activities.

The total capacity of the hall is 1500 people.
