The Big Obukhovsky Bridge (which is also called Vantoviy Bridge) is Petersburg’s newest bridge across Neva river

It is the city’s only bridge across the main river  which is not a drawbridge – its high allows big ships to go down Neva.

It is located at the boundary of Nevskiy district of Saint-Petersburg and Vsevolojsk district of Leningrad Region, in the middle reach of Neva, and it is connecting Obykhovskoi Oborony Prospect and October's Embankment.

The first section  of the bridge was opened on 15 December 2004. Now this area constitutes an important part of Saint Petersburg Ring Road.

The total length of the bridge passage is 2824 meters, including 382 meter long  span and ramps. Bridge’s name has been chosen by a voting of citizens of Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast. The bridge is named Big Obukhovsky after the Obukhovsky district, despite of the fact that Obukhovsky Bridge already exists.

The second name of the bridge is “Vantovy” (Cable) Bridge – because of the beautiful system of cables and shrouds, supporting the construction.
