The monument is made in the traditions of socialist realism, it is very laconic and is one of the most successful monuments erected in St. Petersburg at the end of the XX – beginning of the XXI centuries.

This monument has a very long history. The committee for its construction was created in 1982, but it was only in 1989 that an architectural competition was announced. The first two rounds of this competition yielded no results, and only on the third attempt was the project of the sculptor Ya. Ya. Neiman and the architect F. A. Gepner chosen. Initially, the monument to Zhukov was to be erected on Stachek Square, where it was laid in 1990, but it turned out that a heating main ran through this place, and the monument could not be erected.

Then the chief architect of Victory Park V. D. Kirchglani proposed to erect the monument in its current location. According to the 1945 project, a high-rise dominant was planned here - a monument to I. V. Stalin, since the 1960s the idea of a statue of V. I. Lenin was being developed.

As a result, the monument to G.K. Zhukov, Marshal of Victory, 9 meters high (with a pedestal), became such a dominant feature. It was opened on May 7, 1995.
