The mosaic courtyard
2/7, Tchaikovsky st.
A vibrant creative space in the courtyard which is located at the intersection of the Fontanka Embankment and Tchaikovsky Street, decorated with sculptures and colourful mosaic panels.
The “open air museum” was created according to the idea of Vladimir Vasilyevich Lubenko, the Honoured Artist of Russia and the founder of the Minor Academy of Arts. The artist and his students turned an ordinary courtyard into a unique space in the centre of St. Petersburg.
The Mosaic courtyard is a complex of art objects made of bright mosaic glass, ceramic tile and porcelain. All these sculptures, panels and bas-reliefs represent a united composition, while, at the same time, each panel is an independent work with its own plot. Visitors can admire illustrations to various fairy-tales. In the courtyard there is a wall, dedicated to the history of the creation of St. Petersburg. Here one can see a fountain, a sundial, an unusual “Mosaic Olympic” playground and even a curb decorated with mosaics.
In the mosaic courtyard there is a gallery of Vladimir Lubenko, where it is possible to buy art objects of the artist. Visitors can participate in design of the courtyard and make a mosaic piece.
