Monument to the water carrier
Shpalernaya ul., 56
One of the many monuments that commemorate the professions of the past
The professions of not only a policeman and a photographer, but also a water carrier are immortalized in St. Petersburg sculpture. The monument depicts a water carrier at work: he is pulling a barrel of water; a dog is running in front. In the XIX century, water was delivered around the city in similar barrels.
The monument is installed near the water tower, which today houses the "World of Water in St. Petersburg" museum. The tower itself, built in 1858-1863, is a unique monument of industrial architecture of the XIX century. The museum exposition introduces the development of the water supply system in St. Petersburg over several centuries.
