One of the centers of avant-garde art in St. Petersburg
The museum was founded in February 2006 by members of the creative association "Mitki", under the patronage of the Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko, as an artists' workshop, exhibition and creative center. On February 9, 2006, the museum exposition was officially opened.
The museum hosts art exhibitions, creative meetings, poetry evenings, acoustic concerts, book presentations, master classes for children and the disabled.
The main focus of the museum is contemporary avant-garde and independent art. The museum hosted such significant events as the exhibition "Mitki - Archetypes", an exhibition of artists of the Arefevsky circle, an exhibition in honor of the 75th anniversary of the artist V.N. Shagin, an exhibition of the legendary photographer Boris Smelov, the action "Walk around St. Petersburg" as part of the action "Night of Museums 2010", an exhibition of disabled children of the rehabilitation center "ANIMA", an exhibition of the non-profit rehabilitation center "HOUSE OF HOPE ON THE MOUNTAIN". About 11 exhibitions are held during one year.
