Monument to the Poltava ship
Voskresenskaya nab.
A monument dedicated to the first Russian 54-gun sailing ship of the line of the 4th rank "Poltava" was opened in the alignment of Chernyshevsky Avenue. The ship of the line "Poltava" is a symbol of Russia's naval glory. Its construction at the Admiralty shipyards served as the beginning of the creation of a strong Russian linear fleet.
Peter the Great personally designed this ship and took an active part in its construction. "The ship was named in honor of the victory of Russian troops in the Battle of Poltava, which marked the beginning of Russia's path as a great power. A power that follows its own path of progress and creation."
The sculpture was created by Alexander Taratynov, known to the city residents for the miniature city in the Alexander Park, as well as the architect Valery Lukin.
