The square in St. Petersburg, whose name is dedicated to Academician A. D. Sakharov, Soviet physicist, academician, politician, dissident and human rights activist
The square was named so in 1996, in honor of the 75th anniversary of the birth of A.D. Sakharov, there is also a monument to the academician.
Near the square is the Building of the Twelve Colleges (now St. Petersburg State University), the History Department of St. Petersburg State University, the Philosophical Department of St. Petersburg State University and the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
