Here you will find useful and necessary information for a     comfortable stay in St. Petersburg. For your convenience we will list all the essentials below.

Emergency numbers

Federal Rescue Service – 112 – is a common emergency number   for calls from mobile phones in emergency situations (calls can be made even without a SIM card, without any money on the account and when the phone keypad is locked).

In order to call the Crisis Management Centre of the MES of Russia for the Leningrad region and ask for help, dial: 8 (812) 640-21-60. 

The helpline of the Chief Directorate of the MES of Russia for the Leningrad region is available 24 hours at telephone number: 8 (812) 579-99-99.

 

 

Currency exchange

The official currency in Russian Federation is ruble. Currency exchange is carried out in the exchange offices of the banks.

Money exchange offices are located throughout the city and generally work from 10:00 till 20:00. The most profitable exchange rate can be found in large banks.

Caution: Do not exchange currency from private individuals.

Public transport

Public transport operates from 6:00 till 00:00. The ticket costs 50 rubles per person. There are also transport cards with which it is possible to use public transport (bus, tram, underground and e-bus) unlimited during several days. The card is possible to buy in the ticket-office of the underground.

Mini-buses operate from 7:00 till 00:00. The average price in St. Petersburg is 44 rubles. The cost of suburban routes varies from 39 to 141 rubles.

Underground operates from 5:45 till 00:00. The cost of one token is 55 rubles.

It’s also possible to buy a card (one for each person) – podorozhnik card. Then you pay for a deposit (you put as much money as you want) and in this case for each trip it will be 38 rubles. Or it’s also possible to buy a card for several trips (5, 10 or 20 trips).

Drawbridges

In summer, if you move around St. Petersburg at night (on foot or by car), do not forget about the drawbridges. You can find a detailed bridges opening schedule here.

Electricity

The electric power system of the city is: AC current, 220V voltage, current frequency 50Hz, plug-and-socket connection with two circular joints.

Information for disabled people

Underground

Information for disabled persons. In case if you arrive to the underground station and you need help to get inside of the hall, please contact to the service-centre by the phone-number: +7-800-350-11-55. You need to inform about your location and make a request for assistance. Lifting of the passenger with the wheelchair is made by the special assistant and an equipment. In case if the station is not equipped with special devicies or it’s a peak time then the request could by denied. For passengers who are visually impared there are 70 specially printed schemes on all underground stations. It is also allowed to bring in the underground leader-dog (it should be with a muzzle, dog’s lead and have a special sign), the passenger should also bring with him/she a document, which proves that the dog it’s a specially-educated dog.

 

Medicine

All medical centres in Saint Petersburg have disabled facilities and are equipped with an access for wheelchairs. JSC «Saint Petersburg agency of medical tourism» is ready to provide with all information, how to get medical help in the city.

Where to eat in Saint Petersburg

The easiest way for guests with the wheelchair to visit food courts in shopping centres. For example, in shopping centre Galeria near Moskovsky railway station. For visually impared people is important to know that in cafes and restaurants it’s not allowed to go inside with a dog as well as with other animals due to sanitary regulations. We suggest to enjoy the time at open-air terraces which have most of cafes and restaurants.

Cultural and city sights which are equipped for visually impared people

City sights in the centre of Saint Petersburg such as: St.Isaac’s Cathedral, The Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood, Summer garden, many museums, also suburbs like Catherine Palace in Tsarskoe Selo and Gatchina are ready to welcome visually impared tourists.

In museums are available audio-guides, tactile sensors, special images with Braille pattern Unicode blanks.

 State memorial museum of A.V. Suvorov

Program for visually impared people proposes individual visit with following options: special plan of expositions in the museum, specially made images of cold steel, guns, orders and a map of conquering Ismail fortress, copies of shooting guns and uniforms, tactile possibility to touch guns from the 18th century. State museum of sculptures (program for visually impared tourists include following possibilities: tactile models of the most famous monuments in Saint Petersburg, such as: obelisk to the hero-city Leningrad, complex of sculptures «Taming of the horse by a man» on Anichkov bridge, monument to Catherine II on Ostrovskogo palace, monument to A.S. Attention!  We would like to pay your attention that in Saint Petersburg it’s not allowed to visit museums with dogs. There is not a special place to leave a dog for some time. Following sights are equipped and ready to welcome tourists with a wheelchair: Hermitage, Russian museum (Benois building), The Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood, Sampsonievsky cathedral, Museum of religion, Travelling palace of Peter the Great.
