The Grand Tour is intended to show the tourist and cultural diversity of our country, its unique features, and is also dedicated to preserving the memory of the military and labor exploits of our people during the Great Patriotic War.
The Baikal Mile Grand Tour 2021 will cover almost all of Russia, passing along seven routes through the cities of Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Kirov, Ufa, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Tyumen, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk and many others. The solemn meeting of the teams will take place in Ulan Ude, and then the expedition will go to the village of Maksimikha where the speed competition on the ice of Lake Baikal will start.
It is worth reminding that the first Baikal Mile Speed Festival was held in 2019 and brought together 28 teams from all over the world. In 2020, 114 teams set speed records on ice. This year 150 teams from 35 countries were going to come to Russia. However, the pandemic has made some adjustments. Due to the border closures, the organizers of the festival together and the Russian Geographical Society have developed a route for the motor race of Russian teams through the cities of the country.
In the year of the 80th Anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the teams have a special mission to transfer capsules with soil raised from the Baltic seabed where Soviet submarines sank, and a search report with historical documents - to the relatives and friends of the hero sailors in Ufa, Orenburg and Novosibirsk. The capsules for the Grand Tour were prepared by members of the Immortal Regiment.
On 28 February, in Novosibirsk at the "Post No.1", where the youth of the city keep memory watch, the St. Petersburg team "Fertoing" will hand over the capsule and documents to the relatives of the commander of the submarine Shch-306 of the Red Banner Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy, Captain 3rd Rank Nikolai Ivanovich Smolyar.
