The action takes place in Yasnaya Polyana and Tolstoy House in Moscow, Khamovniky. The scenes of happy family life merge into the spouses’ disputes about “the women’s question” and their experiencing a tragic loss – death of Vanechka who was their youngest, 13th son born when Sophia Andreevna was 44 years old. Her desired consolation happens to be music which brings her together with composer Sergey Taneev for whole 7 years. “Love” is how Sophia Andreevna defined her attitude to the composer.
Educated, talented and with fine sense for literature and music, Sophia Andreevna had been Lev Nikolaevich’s only friend and associate, his children’s mother and the lady of his big house. The spouses had lived together for 48 years. Her devotion to Taneev was a real trial for the whole family.
The spectators will see the majesty of Sophia Andreevna’s extraordinary personality and her “wife of a genius” burden in the acting by legendary Svetlana Kryuchkova. Multifaceted talent of Kryuchkova combining the devotion to the Russian realistic theater traditions with the ability to transform – to fit into the character – will show the depth of woman’s soul to the spectators and let them understand that destroying heart devotion is the same impossible as “not to see, not to breath, not to think”.
The performance will unite stages for piano, symphonic orchestra and dramatic actors. The solo parts will be performed by outstanding Russian pianist, Triumph Youth Award laureate Polina Osetinskaya. The narrator, Taneev and Lev Tolstoy’s line will be conducted by Honoured Artist of Russia Sergey Barkovsky.
The stage production will also be participated in by Taneev String Quartet and New Chamber St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. The musical basis of the performance will be works by L.V. Beethoven, S. Taneyev, D. Shostakovich, F. Chopin, J.S. Bach, F. Mendelssohn, A. Schnittke and others.
