Forts in Kronstadt will be restored

On April 15, 2020, an online conference was held on the restoration of cultural heritage sites and the arrangement of historical territory in the area of the Coastal Harbor of Kronstadt.

On the meeting the progress of conservation and restoration of cultural sites on the territory of the project «Island of Forts» was discussed, according to the Committee on State Control, Use and Protection of Historical and Cultural Landmarks of St. Petersburg.

It should be reminded, within the frameworks of the project «Island of forts», the city cluster of the tourist-recreational and educational focus of the same name is being created, dedicated to the Russian Navy.

“At present, all the necessary procedures have been completed; state contracts for restoration work on three forts, located on the territory of the project « Island of Forts », have been concluded. These are «Emperor Peter I», «Kronshlot» and «Emperor Alexander I». The work has begun. At present, we are at the stage of comprehensive scientific research” said Oleg Zamzhitsky, head of the scientific department of «Central Scientific and Restoration Design Workshops» Federal State Unitary Enterprise.

In summer, underwater archaeological research is planned. It is important for the restoration of fortifications, as well as for the planned construction of more than a kilometer long cableway from the island of Kotlin to the fort «Emperor Alexander I» and the yacht marina in Kupecheskaya harbor.

In addition, to date, conceptual proposals on museumification for «Emperor Peter I», «Kronshlot» and «Emperor Alexander I» have been prepared, which will be discussed with interested representatives of the professional community.
