The oldest Russian film production company Lenfilm was founded in 1914.
On May 4, 1896, the Aquarium Theatre (now Pavilion 4) hosted the first public film show in Russia, and in 1914 the first Russian state film factory was established. Having undergone a series of transformations and renamings, it finally received the name Lenfilm in 1934.
The film studio is located at 10, Kamennoostrovsky Prospect, on the Petrogradskaya Side of St. Petersburg. On the territory of 4 hectares there are 10 buildings (40 thousand m²) that house 5 studio stages; workshops for decorative and technical facilities; a filming preparation department; editing rooms; filming, lighting and sound equipment divisions; a prosthetics studio; a storehouse for costumes and props.
About 1500 feature, documentary, and television films have been shot at Lenfilm, many of which have become international classics – “Chapaev”, “The Wild Dog Dingo”, “My Friend Ivan Lapshin”, “Torpedo Bombers”, “Heart of a Dog”, “Baltic Deputy”, “Peter the Great”, “The Rumyantsev Case”, “The Lady with the Dog”, “Hamlet”, “King Lear”, “Wedding in Malinovka”, “Amphibian Man”, “Cinderella”, “Peculiarities of the National Hunt”, “Chief of Chukotka”, “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson”, “Love by Request”, “Friends and Years”, “Monologue”, “The Italian”.
The film studio has a cultural and exhibition center, a cafe, a souvenir kiosk and a fully modernized historical cinema hall, which hosts movie screenings and film festivals.
