Today it is one of the oldest and largest Lutheran churches in Russia.

The church that has survived to this day was built in 1833-1838 upon the project of A. Bryullov. The interior of the church was significantly rebuilt; however, its external appearance remained practically unchanged. In front of the church on high pedestals are the figures of the apostles Peter and Paul. Today it is one of the oldest and largest Lutheran churches in Russia. In 1938, after nationalization, a storehouse for theatrical scenery was arranged in the church building. In 1962, a swimming pool was opened here.

The building of St. Peter’s Church was returned to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia and Other States in June 1993, and Petrikirche became a cathedral.

In 1994, the church was returned to the believers. Currently, the Evangelical Lutheran community of St. Anne and St. Peter gathers here for worship.

C.I. Rossi, M.P. Mussorgsky, one of the greatest Russian geologists G.P. Helmersen, geographer W.V. Junker, architects K.A. Thon, L.N. Benois, M.E. Messmacher, A. Poehl, teacher P.F.
