One of the largest churches in St. Petersburg, it is made in the Empire style.

Kazan Cathedral is one of the largest churches in St. Petersburg, built in 1801-1811 by architect A.N. Voronikhin by order of Paul I. The model for the project was St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

The cathedral is a monument of Russian military glory. Military trophies are kept here, and the grave of Field Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov is also located here. In 1932-1991, the cathedral was turned into a museum of religion and atheism. In 2000, it received the status of a cathedral church. The main shrine of the temple is a copy of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

The layout of the cathedral is in many ways remarkable. The semicircular colonnade overlooking Nevsky Prospect forms only its side facade, while the entrance to the building, following the Orthodox tradition, is located on the western side, on Kazanskaya Street. The altar is located in the eastern part of the cathedral.
