St. Petersburg winter weather forecast

Winter is always snowy in St. Petersburg. While white and fluffy snow covers trees and houses, giving the city a special charm, Neva freezes in the ice fetters and sparkling icicles hang down from the roofs., It is also time for all kinds of winter sports and activities; skating rinks are available, ice slides are made and just in the nearest park it is easy to rent ski equipment or even a Finnish sled. New Years is celebrated lavishly here and the winter holidays are packed with entertainment and interesting events. The average temperature in December is -4,5 °C in January -7,7°C and in February -6,8°C. Even though the temperature in January is not extremely low, the high humidity can make the freezing air feel much colder than what the thermometer shows. Long walks through the dark city won’t be a lot of fun, it is better to spend time at the numerous museums and enjoy rich theatrical life.

Theatre playbill and concerts in February 2017

Mariinsky theatre

Romeo and Juliet on the playbill 15 February, Wednesday. From the present day point of view, the production has many positive qualities: the clearly defined story line; the elegant, refined dance, the lyrical duets; the sets by Pyotr Williams, the faded grandeur of which precisely conveys the atmosphere of Renaissance Italy. Here, too, absolute faith and self-giving from the two lovers, from the very depths of their souls, is essential. It is this that is brought to the ballet by the soloists of the Mariinsky Ballet Company. They are stunning; they are of those dancers who, it would appear, know instinctively that they are born for the stage.

St. Petersburg State Academic Capella

On 25 February 2016 you can enjoy the playing of Christian M. Kunert, one of the best bassoonist of Germany and a solo-bassoonist of the Hamburg Philharmonics.
