The idea of ​​the installation of monuments has arisen from the Emperor Alexander I in 1818, he wanted to generals Kutuzov sculptor depicted in the image of ancient heroes. Place for the monument was chosen by chance: it is from the Kazan Cathedral August 11, 1812 Mikhail Kutuzov, appointed commander, went to the army. After the death of Kutuzov in 1813 were buried in the Kazan Cathedral.
