Square unites several architectural monuments into an amazing ensemble
Ostrovsky Square known as Alexandrinskaya Square before 1923, is situated Nevsky Prospect, Malaya Sadovaya Street and Zodchego Rossi Street.
The square was designed by architect K. I. Rossi in 1816-34 on the territory of Anichkov Palace between Sadovaya Street and Fontanka River Embankment.
The ensemble of the square includes the buildings of the Russian National Library, Alexandrinsky theatre, Anichkov Palace, the Head Office of Oktyabrskaya Railway, the St. Petersburg City Credit Society building and a monument to Catherine II.
