A museum contains a memorial apartment with authentic pieces of décor belonged to Russian poet and literary exposition narrating about his life and works
Blok’s Memorial Apartment is situated at Dekabristov ul. 57 and presents the State Museum of St. Petersburg History branch. It’s opening was coincided with 100 anniversary of poet’s death took place in 1980. The museum is located in a former N. Petrovsky’s commercial apartment building designed by the architect M. Peterson, where the poet settled in 1912 and lived the last 9 years of his life.
The exposition is based on the collection of A. Blok’s authentic pieces which were preserved by his wife, L. Mendeleeva and passed to Russian Literature Institute (Pushkin House) after her death in 1939 where they were fractionally exhibited. Also there is a collection possessed by N. Ilyina includes about 7000 objects. At the memorial apartment 21 located in the 4th floor one may visit restored library, dining room, poet’s bedroom and his wife’s living room. A literary exposition discovering poet’s creative career is situated in the 2nd floor in the apartment 23 where Blok’s mother lived. Poet’s death mask and a picture “Blok on his deathbed” created by L. Bruni both are exhibited in the room where in 7th August 1921 Blok passed away.
