The park is located on the Elagin island in the North-West of St. Petersburg. In the XIX century the palace with the park were owned by the royal family. Today the park is admired by the citizens that are fond of walking and feeding squirrels. One may rent skates and bikes as well as a rowboat or a paddle-boat to float a chain of ponds. In the wintertime one may enjoy ice-skating or rent a kicksled. The park takes pride of its mini-zoo with a raindeer, a Cameroon dwarf goat, a Siberian chipmunk and various birds. Central Park is a venue for the annual celebration of the Maslenitsa feast, street theater feast, flower, glass and ceramics festivals as well as music open airs. The palace interiors are decorated in the empire style and hold the fancy-dress balls, there is also a museum of artistic glass.
Pay attention to the Buddhist temple that is next to the park entrance from the side of the Staraya Derevnya metro station. The stained-glass windows were made by N.Roerich.
One of the islands would once be the summer resting place for the monkeys. However they had no direct contact to the park visitors as the landing to this island was prohibited.
The entrance is free during the week. There is a free pass on student ID on week-ends.
