29 November 2019

The city became the best in the ‘World’s Leading Cultural City Destination 2019’ nomination in an open vote, where tourism experts, representatives of travel agencies, travellers and city residents participated.

In the race for the title, St. Petersburg competed with such cities as Beijing (China), Hoi An (Vietnam), London (England), Moscow (Russia), New York (USA), Paris (France), Quito (Ecuador), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Rome (Italy) , Santiago de Cali (Colombia), Sydney (Australia), and Venice (Italy).

In 2019, St. Petersburg was already awarded as the best in Europe’s Leading City Destination 2019 nomination.

World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of travel, tourism and hospitality industries. To be chosen as best, a tourist destination should match such important criteria as safety, well-developed infrastructure, the number of hotels and quality of their services.
