Siege of Leningrad Museum closed for repairs

04 July 2018

Since June 4, 2018, the State Memorial Museum of Defense and the Siege of Leningrad has been closed for renovation and restoration. This is done in preparation for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade (2019) and the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (2020).

The museum said that the completion of the work will be announced later. However, as reported the press service of the museum, it does not stop its activities and will come up with a variety of projects and activities in friendly institutions of culture and education.

Along with the renovation and restoration of engineering networks and facilities, the museum began to update the exposition. The updated exposition will be offered to the visitors after the repair and restoration of the building on Solyanoi pereulok (Salt lane), 9. In addition, the renovation, repair and rationalization of the storage system will affect the museum's storage facilities.

State Memorial Museum of Defense and the Siege of Leningrad continues to replenish the funds. In order to properly present the history of Defense and the Siege of Leningrad in the new exposition, the museum needs the original documentary data and material evidence of the battle for Leningrad and the Siege of Leningrad.

Perhaps the required rarities are kept in family archives. The museum staff will gratefully consider all proposals. If people are unable or unwilling to part with such values, the museum is ready to digitize all that citizens are willing to share. The originals remain with citizens, and digital copies, which will be included in the digital archive of the museum, will serve as the study and promotion of the history of the Defense and the Siege of Leningrad.
