13 December 2017

The first electrobus started to ply within Primorsky district on 12 December. Georgiy Poltavchenko, the governor of St. Petersburg, visited ceremony of launching.

Citizens can already try and feel the comfort and convenience of brand new kind of city transport – electrobus, which moves with electrical energy. A special route was developed and received the number 23.

This new electrobus, which was made by «Trolza» factory, can run a part of this route in offline mode. Battery energy is sufficient for movement over a distance of 15 kilometers. After that it has to be recharged by running via the contact network.

Georgiy Poltavchenko, who visited the launch ceremony, noted the symbolism of event in the Year of Ecology and compared it with launch of a first tram, which had happened in early 20th century in St. Petersburg. According to the governor, 115 more of these ecologically clean machines with dynamic charging are expected in the near future. Besides, it will require 650 new electrobuses to replace all the ordinary trolleybuses.

Most of the electrobus components are produced in St. Petersburg, which helps to save considerable money. As for operating costs, it is cheaper by 5 million rubles. 15 electric buses on the line will help to save more than half a billion rubles.

According to the director of "Gorelectrotrans" Vasily Ostryakov, the possible directions in the Primorsky region, as well as in the center along the routes No. 1 and No. 22, are being considered at the moment.
