Victory Day in Russia is called simply – the 9th of May – after one of the most memorable date in the newest history. The whole Europe still remembers this day but in Russia this holiday is always celebrated widely, Victory Day festivities are organized in all major Russian cities to celebrate the great victory of the Soviet people over the Nazi Germany in the far 1945. Every Russian man keeps in his heart the memory about his brave and self-sacrificing ancestors who fought for the liberty of Russia and the whole world. This year Victory Day will be celebrated especially grandiously to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Great Labour!

On May 9, St. Petersburg, together with the rest of Russia, will celebrate one of the major holidays in the country – the Day of Victory over Nazi Germany. The city has planned many festive events The celebrations start at 10:00 with a huge military parade, followed up by a veterans and blockade survivors parade down Nevsky Pr. and across Palace Square. A big street party follows with singing, music, and lots of hugs and flowers for the survivors of the war. he day ends with a huge firework display over the Neva river and Peter and Paul Fortress area at 22:00. To get into the spirit of things buy yourself a big bundle of red carnations and greet any veterans you see with a hearty ‘S dnyom pobedy’ (Happy Victory Day) and a flower.
