Small, but the most luxurious opera theatre in Saint Petersburg, placed in the mansion of baron von Derviz
This theatre was created in 1987 by director Yuri Alexandrov, when Russian society was in need of new creative ideas.
Despite all difficulties of “perestroika” and collapse of the USSR, the theatre, founded like a theatrical art laboratory, has taken its high place amongst the other theatres in St. Petersburg, and has earned reputation of “thriving opera theatre”, famous due to its magnificent classic interpretations and bold, topical performances. The troupe of the theatre deserves to be mentioned specially: it consists of the most talented young Russian soloists.
Now this comfortable theatre with brilliant inner interiors is one of the most important cultural places in the city. A ticket to the St.Petersburg Opera is always a remarkable gift and sign of a good taste.
The theatre building, where St. Petersburg Opera is situated, was once a mansion of baron von Dervis. It is one of the most wonderful buildings, which interior is preserved untouched. The hall of the theatre and chamber stage were designed for musical events, that’s why the building fits for the opera perfectly.
Today’s repertoire is a row of bright musical performances, from an easy genre of operetta to heavy musical drama.
The chief of St. Petersburg Opera, Yuri Alexandrov, has managed to make theatre very popular even among the unsophisticated public. Each year performances of Y.Alexandrov, People’s Artist of Russia, deservedly receive prestigious prizes, such as “the Golden Mask” and “the Golden Soffit”.
You could book ticket to “St. Petersburg Opera” at the official site of the theatre, or in any box office.
