On February 17, 1830 the first masquerade hosted by Vasily Engelhardt took place
Masquerades at Engelhardt's were described in Mikhail Lermontov's play «Masquerade». Vasily Engelhardt used to organize musical evenings and balls. Vasily was a well-known philanthropist and was friends with Alexander Pushkin, Vasily Zhukovsky, Mikhail Glinka, Pyotr Vyazemsky and Aleksandr Turgenev who frequently attended the events in this house (Nevsky prospect, 30).
