The first bridge in the world with permanent electricity

25 April, Saturday

On April 25, 1879 the Liteyny bridge became the first bridge in the world to be lightened by permanent electricity

At six p.m. the Liteyny bridge across the Neva was illuminated with electric lamps. It was the first bridge in the world with this kind of illumination, and it stayed the only one for a long time. The Nevsky prospekt was lightened by electric lights about five years later.
