On April 3, 1836 the decision for construction of the Russia's first passenger railroad was made

The Tsarskoye Selo Railway became the sixth railroad in the world. An Austrian engineer Franz von Gerstner, professor of the Vienna Polytechnical Institute, was invited to come to Russia for supervising the process of construction.
