On May 9 from 9 a.m to 12:00 torches on the Rostral columns will be lighted on occasion of Victory Day. Second lighting will be since 5 p.m. till 11 p.m.
Traditionally, the Victory Day begins with the lighting of the torches on the Rostral columns on the Spit of Vasilyevsky Island.
Not a single large-scale celebration in the city on the Neva is possible without this solemn moment.
The Rostral columns were erected in 1810 according to the design of the French architect Thomas de Thomon, who decorated them with rostrums of ships.
Rostral columns are the symbol of power and greatness of the state's Navy.
