On January 30, 1890 an ice monuments exibition was opened in the «Aquarium» garden on Kamennoostrovsky Avenue
Among others were a copy of the Eiffel Tower (one-tenth the size of the original) and a Russian-style ice house with utensils made of ice. The exibition was very popular. The owner of the spot was initially going to build here a large aquarium with fresh-water animals and fish. Though the project never came to life, the name stayed, and later the garden «Aquarium» with a 2000-seats theater, restaurants and an entertainment center was set out.
